2024 is a great year for Razer. The brand has always been synonymous with (pro) gaming, but since ProSettings.net was founded, we haven’t seen them perform This Healthy.
Their products dominated categories across all titles, including keyboards, mice, and headsets, with the Razer Viper V3 Pro taking the #1 spot in all the games we analyzed.
And outside the world of professional gaming, the Viper V3 Pro also puts up impressive numbers. The newly released version of the Sentinel sold out on Razer’s site throughout the month of December and attracted a lot of attention from its fans. Additionally, Sentinel sold its allocated mice in less than 6 hours. With statistics like these, it’s safe to say that the Viper V3 Pro has made a big impact. In this article, we will take a deeper look at the product and the story behind it.
Release
It’s important to note that the Viper V3 Pro didn’t appear out of thin air. Its predecessor—the Viper V2 Pro—was a product with a significant following and was known as one of the best gaming mice of its time. Therefore, attention is drawn to the Razer Viper V3 HyperSpeed which will be released in the second half of 2023. This mouse has a very different shape from its predecessor. This has led fans to speculate that it is some kind of testing platform for the flagship model.
When Razer released their final product, it was clear that they were creating something revolutionary. With a weight of 54 grams, a sensor capable of polling rates up to 8000Hz, optical switches, and a much more secure overall shape design, this mouse has been hailed as a contender for mouse of the year by many reviewers. This is an important release not only for Razer, but for the gaming market in general.
New Form
Form is king
Technology is important in a professional gaming rig, of that there is no doubt. But when it comes to mice, the adage ‘form is king’ definitely holds true. And there’s no better recent example than the Razer Viper line.
Despite offering some of the most technologically advanced features of its time, the Razer Viper V2 Pro never really competed for the #1 spot. That’s not to say the shape is flawed, but the flat, slightly elongated design used means it’s not as safe as it could be.
Safe versus unsafe forms
For those who aren’t mouse fans: the form ‘safe’ basically means ‘universal’. If the mouse has a secure shape, it means that most gamers will be able to hold it and it will be comfortable to hold. More specialized designs, tailored to one particular type of grip, would be termed ‘unsafe’.
One is not necessarily better than the other. If you know exactly what type of grip you want, choosing a shape that is ‘unsafe’ and suits your preferences may be just what you need. However, a mouse with a secure shape clearly attracts more potential users, thus setting the bar higher.
Raise the ceiling
After working with many active pro players, Razer decided that moving away from the flatter shape of the previous Viper model was the best course of action. Instead, Razer opted for a more boxy, neutral shape that also allows users to hold it comfortably with a greater variety of grip styles.
In some ways, Razer’s redesign of the Viper line could be seen as a risk. By using a more secure and rounded shape, they firmly established their flagship ambidextrous mouse as a direct competitor to the Logitech G Pro X Superlight, which has been the #1 mouse for years.
Hence, the Viper V3 Pro should easily beat the established kings in technical terms. After all, if both mice offer similar experiences, why would anyone switch from what they already know?
The new benchmark for gaming mice
Anticipation
Since the shape of the Viper V3 Pro is already known to the public (because HyperSpeed was released earlier), people are very focused on its specifications. Everyone who loves gaming mice knows what to expect from their build. Therefore, the only question is whether it will be any good from a technical perspective.
As you probably know if you read this article, Razer delivers.
Top specs
The Viper V3 Pro was released in early 2024, but is still a top gaming mouse in 2025. With a weight of 54 grams, a second generation Focus Pro 35K Optical Sensor capable of polling rates up to 8000Hz, and Razer Gen-3 optical switches, it’s hard to beat even for mice that are being released.
This sensor is still one of the most advanced sensors on the market. This allows Razer to implement a number of QoL features that really make the Viper V3 Pro easy to use, which also gives it an edge over much of the competition.
For starters, its rotation tool is especially useful for players who tend to hold the mouse at an angle when swiping. Then there’s also DPI sensitivity matching for a smooth transition when switching from your old mouse to this mouse.
Plus, there are lots of customization options. The sensor allows 1-step DPI adjustment, for example. You can even enable Asymmetric Cut-off to completely change your LOD to suit your preferences and playing style. Whatever you want from a mouse: you can get it with the Viper V3 Pro.
Combine features like this with revolutionary aspects like a wireless polling rate of up to 8000Hz (something that’s not very common in wireless mice even today), and it starts to become clear why this mouse gets such praise.
Path to #1
Razer officially released the Viper V3 Pro to the public in April 2024. As is often the case, a select group of professionals had been using the mouse for some time before that, which only added to the excitement among enthusiasts and other professionals. . In this case, the hype is even bigger, considering that Zekken won the VALORANT Masters Madrid 2024 using the Viper V3 Pro.
In the month of its official launch, it debuted at a very impressive 7th place in our overall mouse rankings. Since then, usage has increased significantly until it peaked in October last year. With a market share of ~18% at the time of writing, this mouse even managed to beat the Logitech G Pro X Superlight as the #1 mouse on ProSettings.net.
It’s true, Superlight users are currently spread across Superlight 1 and Superlight 2. However, it’s an impressive feat to see a mouse not made by Logitech in the #1 position.
Most Used Mice Overall – December 2024
Rank | Per. | |
---|---|---|
1 | Razer Viper V3 Pro | 18% |
2 | Logitech G Pro | 18% |
3 | Logitech G Pro | 13% |
4 | Razer DeathAdder V3 Pro | 8% |
5 | ZOWIE EC2-DW | 4% |
Razer’s focus on form and delivering excellent specifications is highly appreciated in the professional and enthusiast arena. As mentioned, the Viper V3 Pro not only managed to grab the #1 spot here but also landed on many year-end best-of lists created by reviewers, influencers, and industry professionals.
Of course, much of what makes a ‘good’ mouse is subjective, so the Viper V3 Pro won’t work for everyone. However, there’s no denying that the folks at Razer have managed to put out a product that’s a benchmark.
Future
Razer struck gold with the Viper V3 Pro. Other than that, it’s still one of the best mice you can buy from a technical perspective. Therefore, we do not expect any major announcements anytime soon.
The newly released version of the Sentinel has a slightly different texture (and a different look of course) but is otherwise no different to the regular version. We may see more collaboration versions released in the near future, and while the Viper line is ready for a new version, we don’t expect to see any major changes to its overall shape.
Given the popularity of this design, we expect Razer to continue developing this platform in an effort to make the Viper line of mice the new undisputed kings of gaming mice. Whether that will come true or not, only time will tell. What we do know is that Razer has prepared perfectly. We are excited to see where this road leads.
Are there any other collaborations you think Razer should do with the Razer Viper V3 Pro? Let us know what you think in the comments!
Both the regular version of the Viper V3 Pro and the Sentinel version are available on Amazon.
